The main page of our conference is a "virtual place". How so? Through the
magic of Virtual Places software from GNN, we're able to list our site as one
of many virtual places (about 20 or so) that can be visited by other folks using
Virtual Places. VP divides your screen up into three windows, Netscape or Explorer
is in the upper left, there's a group chat window below this, and in a strip
to the right is a list of either "places" or "people" who are visiting the
current place that you are visiting. You, and the others visiting the place,
are represented by cartoon or realistic "avatars" or little faces. Your little
face can be a 48x64 gif that you create and put in a VP subdirectory. I wish
they called these "little faces" instead of avatars, it makes it sound like
everyone is a messiah coming to save the planet.
GNN and AOL or the major corporate sponsors of Virtual Places. The salvation
of Virtual Places is that they have chosen WELL veteran Cliff Figallo to
build the VP community. If anyone can build a community it's Cliff, who had
a lot to do with building the WELL population and truly understands what a
community is all about. Other users on VP have also caught on the community
aspect, so hopefully it will not just devolve in a cyber-pickup-bar. It has
huge potential.
And, one of the most exciting features is something calling "touring". You can
design your own vehicle just like you can make your own little face and you
can take others on website tours. Or you can hop on someelses tour and zoom
away to their web tour.

I just wanted to add my praise for the internet client known as Virtual Places.
I have been using it since nearly it's inception and have found it to be one of
the best chat clients available at this time. For those of you who may not know
what Virtual Places (or VP) is all about, it's a program that allows you to chat
with other people while touring the Internet at the same time. The benefit of
this form of communication is one where people can guid "tours" of their favorite
websites as other people move along the information highway in tow. No longer
does the World Wide Web have to be a solitary experience. The possibilities are
endless. You'd be amazed at the world that awaits you once you've got the VP
client up and running. Once you get Virtual Places up and running, look me up...
I go by the nickname "Gekko" and you can find me in Webtown (http://www.cyberclay.com/webtown)
It's a blast...btw, W E B T O W N is almost as much fun as VP itself...check it out.
But grab VP so you can see all the other people moving around in this Virtual Village.

Greetings, distinguished users of this forum! :-)
I have had trouble getting Virtual Places to come down the pipeline, in
previous releases as well as this one. Using the link on the Strouds page,
Netscape will get to the "Saving location" prompt but the server never
seems to send any data.
The same situation happens under WSFTP, I can attempt to start the data
transfer but nothing is sent.
Wanted to mention this in case others have run into this problem. We now
resume with our forum....

There is a "Beta 3" version available now. Some of the new features (from their website):
More support for MS Internet Explorer - The Beta3 version runs with the Microsoft
Internet Explorer 2.0 browser, both the 32-bit and the 16-bit versions.
Automatic reconnect to the server If you get disconnected from the Virtual Places server,
your Beta 3 client will automatically reconnect you to the community server.
Reminder of who you're Ignoring Any VP member you choose to Ignore from now on
will show up in Red text in your People list.
Nicer buttons! The toolbar buttons controlling Enter/Exit and Places have been
redesigned.

Greetings, all! I was wondering if anyone had anything unnatural happen to VP after installing MSIE 4.0. I'd used VP and it worked just fine, but I've discovered I am unable to login with my nick and password ever since I ran the MS Explorer 4.0 upgrade.
(The screen where the login data must be entered refuses to accept text input.)
This happened to both a friend and myself since the upgrade. I sent a note to VP tech support, but... ...

I had wierd stuff, but not this. I just had crashes with VP.
