Topic 241 of 395: WinG

Fri, Aug 9, 1996 (20:37) | Paul Terry Walhus (terry)
WinG -- This drawing library from Microsoft, among other things,
has been designed to increase the performance of many MPEG
applications. MPEGPlay and VMPEG Lite, for example, both have
options for using WinG. Unfortunately, the performance gains I
have achieved have been less than extraordinary -- WinG shortened
the time of several 15-30 second movies by only half a second (for
both gray scale and 256 color displays). Also, WinG doesn't
currently work with full color (24-bit) MPEG files. The WinG
library includes several interesting displays of the effects that can be
achieved with it.

Positives: Graphics and drawing library designed to increase the
performance of MPEG apps
Negatives: Currently the performance gains are not all that
noticeable
