They're America's tough, brawny, scrapping babes who had the attention of
a billion people on tv last weekend. And they've shocked the world with
their win over China. They're not just babes. They're mega-babes. As
Wayne would say, Schweeeeee . . .

The defining photo was the one in the Statesman today of Brandy Chastain, her shirt torn off, with her black Nike sports bra, raising her sinewy arms to the heavens, in utter ecstasy at having just kicked the goal that put the USA into the World Cup. And then cut to Mia Hamm and the rest of the team racing to embrace her. It was one of the century's great sports moments, filled with emotion and jubliation.

The girls of summer were on Good Morning America this morning and I
watched their hour long celebration from 7 am to 8 am and taped it and put
it as part of the springcast. I should start playing around 11 am again.
Then I heard our local sports talk guys and they were telling a story
about the time Briana Scurry ran naked through her home town after the
teams Olympic victory. Now, that makes Chastain ripping off her shirt
seem mild.
They raised their winnings share from $12,500 to $50,000 but that's just
the beginning. Let the endorsements begin.

LOL, wer!!
I had to smile when I read the newspaper article, all had names like Brandi, Chelsea, Tiffany, Briana...nary a Susan among them! It's funny how names evolve.

It gives new meaning to victory laps and "war" chests, too, does it not?!
Each year we get Freshmen lady volleyball and softball players. Last year we had three Jennifers. and three Michelles...wonder what it will be this year.

I'll let you know this weekend - the Hawaiian Style Classic Volleyball tournament is on. I shall let you know what the spotters, slammers and spikers are named this season. Could very well be Caitlins out there. I am betting on Christy or Chris or some permutation of that.

As for U.S. Women's soccer, I had a disturbed and disturbing dream last night. Mia Hamm was paid a ton of money to play with a men's professional team. She was beaten nearly unrecognizable by jealous males during play--and that was her own team! I don't know where that came from, but I woke up in a cold sweat...

We have a Jayme on the Softball team. That is the only duplicate name I see so far, but Coach has a big job ahead to cut the walk-ons and wannabes from the telented athletes in Softball. Keep your money handy, Autumn...we are not finished yet! John, stop eating Pepperoni Pizza before bedding down for the night...! How ghastly!

I have discovered that the Volleyball Team here is not indicative of the names-du-jour...but I will have in my hot little hands the program listing all of the teams entered in the tournament on Thursday when I start selling T-shirts again. I shall report back. Loretta?! Marnie!! Wow! Ann is always around. Good name. I'll like to bet on Diana being popular in about 15 years...and we have an incoming Freshman on the softball team with that name.

Maybe, but politically incorrect. We Colonials, whose E. Aron Presley "ate only with a knife" and still managed to eat and drug himself into a massive, fall-off-the-crapper coronary, must use the P.C. term "freshwoman." BTW, I know your comment about Presley--although perhaps not the ones about Americans needing lessons in etiquette--was firmly tongue in cheek. As for me, I would rather have dinner with Elvis, knife-wielding, lip-smacking, word-slurring, TV-shooting, fried peanut butter-and-banana sand
ich binges and all, than with Mussolini, who was purported to have exquisite table manners, or his partner in crime, Deutschland's (sorry, I don't know how to make the umlaut outside of Microsoft Word) own "Der Fuehrer," who was no more representative of the average German than our obese but beloved "King" was of the average American. If I can clear some leeway on my maxed out Mastercard, I just might buy a long distance subscription to your mag (if an English language version is available). You do have
a way with words!

Excuse me, I know that was a fork. But he was Southern so the knife part is certainly an understandable Freudian slip. And he was my daddy, although he never admitted to it. (Lisa Marie got all the money, all I got was the waistline).

...I mentioned we didn't, I faintly seem to remember... no plastic money here. Now, if I had a distributor in the US who'd accept plastic... I once nearly had one, but I never heard a word on that issue again. No English edition, but always some articles and reviews en ingles. And sorry, I don't write a lot/anymore. Running it takes up all time.
Hiya, folks, and congrats, John! Nice move! "Colonials", he? Hey, I'm not british, just short tempered at times. And sometimes maybe even rude.
Oh, John and thanks for the compliment! Actually, it's the other way round, the words have their way with me, especially in writing - I'm just an innocent helpless poor little editor...

Mia Hamm is embarrassing Michael Jordan and Kevin Garnett in Nike commercials. Brandi Chastain is probably going to make a fortune endorsing sports bras. And both of them plus Brianna Scurry can have a job anytime they want starring in my dreams. Too bad it's not a paying job!
