There has been a major power shift in the past few days with the defection of a Vermont Senator who has left the Republican party and has become in Independent, Vermonters love it, they are independent. But it means the Democrats now control all the committees. Big time!

Very very important news that. Bush will be moribund on his controversial reform programme - most importantly, though, on Supreme Court appointments. "Pro-choice"-ers should be celebrating!!!

It will preserve some balance in the system as we move beyond the huge tax cut. Meanwhile Jeffords approval rating in VT. has soared to 70%, an all time high., though his death threats are also at an all time high.
