What is missing and/or needed in Austin's restaurants?
Service, style, decor, ethnicity, or menu items?
(or anything I've left off!)

Gosh, there is such an abundance of restaurants and choices, this is
tough to answer. Seafood resturants?

What type of seafood restaurant did you have in mind,
because I can think of several.

Well, I can't think of many, which is why I put it in the form of a question. I've heard of Sea Island and I once ate at a place down near restaurant row near Barton Springs road but I think it's gone. Long John Silver's is an abomination. Oh, OK, there is that place with lobster in the name, they have a location on 183 near IH35. Help me with the name. I had some very pleasant experience there once with a date and once on my own.
I haven't tried Sea Island.
Maybe you could give me some of your thoughts on this general topic so I could get a better handle on it. I wonder if Stacey is a member of this conference?

I suppose you meant Red Lobster. There is also Landry's which is where
The Magic Time Machine formerly was. We used to love it there, but now
prefer Pappadeaux's. Our seafood distributor also has a restaurant
attached to it over on Airport. Eaves Brothers is the name of our
supplier, but I can't remember the name of the restaurant.

OK, then, there are some good seafood places. Hmm, now what
does Austin lack? I bet a lot of would be restauranteurs are asking that question.

Pardon me for saying so, but we don't need no new
restaurants. Austin has the highest per capita
in the state.

Austin does have a very wide variety of restaurants with different degrees of
quality. Denver is missing good Cajun places. Even though we're landlocked,
we have an amazing number of good quality seafood and Japanese restaurants.
I think Austin has an abundant amount of eateries, I wish some of them were
not chains. Pappadeux's is delicious but I can go to Houston, Dallas or San
Antonio and get the same thing. I like to patronize places where the menu is
exclusive and the receipes unique.

topeed should be (sb) topped, as in
"has Austin topped 3,000 restuarants yet"
John Hoberman runs a used restaurant place and with so many restaurants and
so many coming and going I think he's about ready to retire for life. Not a bad
business to be in around Austin.

from Garrett via email:
No, El Sol y La Luna (the sun and the moon). The good veggie burgers are at
Hut's on sixth just east of Lamar... I like the one called the Theta... has
pickles, mayonaise, and BBQ sauce. I look the other way regarding the
sauce... most BBQ sauces contain anchovies. Hut's has a 2 for 1 special a
couple of evenings per week, but I don't recall when.
This is in reference to conversation Stacey and I were having about the
good Tex Mex place on S Congress and about the veggie burgers at Huts.
Hmmm, wonder what night that 2 fer 1 is on?

I left twice, once around 89 and once around 93. I sold the house in 93
and came back to my place in Texas. Now the house in Occidental is worth
three times what I sold it for! Oh well.
