Topic 38 of 52: BodyChoir

Sun, Aug 16, 1998 (18:46) | Paul Terry Walhus (terry)
The scene. Any Sunday morning at the BodyChoir dance space (soon to be
named) on South Lamar in Austin. Astral music. Bodies undulating and
pulsing in semi-darkness. Bodies interpenetrating and communicating.
Alone and interlinked. Then there's a community circle with sharing and
some community annoucements. And then the bodies go out into the light
again.

It's hard to describe Body Choir with words because it's all so
nonverbal. I'm not a spokesman for Body Choir and this is not an
official Body Choir website, but I put this here because it's something I
enjoy doing on Sunday mornings in Austin. I've only been at it a for a
few Sundays but it's something I look forward to every week.

On August 15, I went to a "pre-board" meeting and learned a lot more
about how Body Choir is transitioning from a two person business of Terry
and Corolla's to a nonprofit community organization. About a month ago,
Body Choir moved into a gorgeous new dance facilty (built solely by the
"sweat equity" of it's members, notably by the pure determination of
Lakshmi) which is located on South Lamar next to Big Steve's Gym. So
Body Choir is moving into a new phase which involves formalizing it's
relationship with the owners of the space it is using, obtaining sound
equipment, paying off member loans, paying off the company that provided
the "maumoleum" for the floor, and getting set up as a 501-C-3 nonprofit
organization. Body Choir also needs to reward Terry and Corolla for
their efforts in bring Body Choir to it's present state (they are the
founders and facilitators of Body Choir). More on history later.

The Spring is planning an dance event, SilkDance, in which Body Choir
members have been invited to come and dance wearing the latest silk
fashions in conjunction with the launch of it's new website,
http://www.silkclothing.com. The url for this special event will be
http://www.silkdance.com.

A lot of things are in the planning stage, including SilkDance, but we
are planning to get a bunch of BodyChoir folks to make a video, and
they'll all be wearing silk. Stay tuned, leplep.

the whole experience sounds fascinating Paul...
a sensual yoga merged with interpretive dance.

I saw a bunch of Body Choir folks at Leighton Hodges party last night, they're on the permanent guest list, along with Bob Nagy, ageless Connie Coulton, Maria and Paul, this is getting to be a time warp.
