Figure skating has always been popular. Lately, it's all over the tube as a
regular weekend feature. Good trend!

In early January, Oksana Baiyul's car did
a double lutz off a Connecticut country road at 2 am. She got hurt, probably
not badly, the other occupant, a 30 year old man, suffered
a cut; the accident is under investigation.
Is she still a "courageous orphan" or a "tarty little blond"?
She has filled out since the Olympics...
She turned herself in to the Connecticut State Police. Seems the
courageous orphan was shitfaced drunk when she crashed her Mercedes. Oh,
and she's only 19; drinking age is 21, of course ...
Her blood alcohol was .16. Legal limit for 21-year-olds is .08
For minors, you lose your license if you're above .02
She needed 12 stitches, but it looks like her injuries won't affect her
career.

Championships, which were just completed. This should show up late afternoon
on Saturday, 1/25 on the Wide World of Sports.

this Saturday (2/8) on WWOS. At this time it looks like the broadcasts will

Saturday, 2/15 Evening broadcast

ah...not a deep probing intellectual exercise, then. Mighta guessed! There's lots of truely bored people out there...with nothing much working inside their heads...(I am such a snob about these things...lamentable!)

But, I truly enjoy figure skating as my substitute for classical Ballet which I grew up enjoying in NYC...I miss it, but Great figure skating is the next best thing and the music is always great. Thanks for the times and schedule. I shall plan my activities around watching it.

From USA Today:
Notes: U.S. bright future in figure skating
CALGARY (AP) — A gold by a 16-year-old rising star and three bronze medals bode well for the future of U.S. figure skating, even though Sasha Cohen and the nation's top ice dancing team fell short of the world titles they were expected to win.
Kimmie Meissner skated to a world championship, moving her to the top of the skating world heading to the '10 Winter Games. Kimmie Meissner skated to a world championship, moving her to the top of the skating world heading to the '10 Winter Games.

With Kimmie Meissner's stunning ascent to the World Figure Skating Championships title, and bronzes from ice dancers Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, Evan Lysacek in the men's event and Cohen in the women's competition, the United States won the most medals. And, with the exception of Cohen, the others already have made plans to pursue more championships right through the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Meissner arrived well ahead of schedule — and at the expense of Cohen, the U.S. champion and a heavy favorite coming to Calgary. While Meissner
