Lord, Suzanne - I had no idea Jacques was so built under that racing uniform - gotta love those arms! The last time I saw him he had bleached his hair snow white - is this a recent photo?? Thanks for sharing - he's beautiful! Who else makes you happy?? ;-)

Fittipaldi
That lovely Brazilian boy Nan so graciously posted is Christian Fittipaldi - in fact, he used to race with Jacques before he left CART for F1. He has a nice butt to match those lips...

Messier
Ooooh, Nan, the "wet dream" photo (aka, "legs") - could we have a better start for "69"??? Thanks, dearest, that beautiful beast always makes me swoon (betcha didn't know that, did you??) LOL!!

Nan, since Suzanne likes hockey, could I bribe you to post a photo of Joe?? Yum!

I'm very delighted that you see the same raw beauty I do (many don't). But he's mine and I have it in writing! LOL! ;-D

Bribe? Certainly not--all you need do is ask, dearest ;-) As always, we are of the same mind my friend--I happened to scan a little Joe photo today (along with a few others). Enjoy!

The excellent (and quite adorable) Mr. Sakic...

I have to say the great Pat is registering with me lately - it's the eyes and those fabulous eyelashes, and I didn't realize he had such a nice chin till now. I just hope he keeps that cute head attached this year. ;-)

I have to say the great Pat is registering with me lately - it's the eyes and those fabulous eyelashes, and I didn't realize he had such a nice chin till now. I just hope he keeps that cute head attached this year. ;-)

Shhhhh!!! We don't want to jinx him. Hockey fnas are the most notoriously superstitious people on the planet ;-D While I completely understand the appeal, Pat's not really my type. Then again, he could look like the hind end of a baboon for all I care--when you're that talented it makes no difference to me.
All that matters is that he keeps scoring and stays healthy.

Thanks for the great NHL eye orgy!! ;-D Now, let's not leave the NHL till we see the gorgeous Mike Modano - can you help me Nan?? ;-)

Oh, yes...I forgot you have a little thing fo him. Very well, dearest. I always keep some old copies of The Hockey News, The NHL Yearbooks, etc. under my desk...never know when they'll come in handy. Like now, for instance:

BTW, dearest...looks like you haven't heard. Modano is out for 4-6 weeks with a knee injury. Damn! He's on the US team too :-(

I did read about his injury this morning--my first thought was purely selfish, like I wouldn't be seeing him in action for 6 weeks, and what a shame since he's leading in points--but I hadn't thought about the Olympics!! ;-(

Okay, if I can impose on you one more time--can you share a little Brian Noonan, Teemu Selanne, and Bill Guerin?? Thanks for indulging me. ;-)

I once had a fantasy about a UT women's basketball player.
Then one day I was in Trudy's and she walking in and stood
next to me, she about about 6-8. I was speechless, couldn't
even get it up to ask her to have coffee with me.

Other women's sports figures? I'll have to think about this.

Dear Nan,

I know you're a huge Mark Messier fan, so I was wondering if you've seen the latest Lays potato chip commercial. I don't know whether Lays is a Canadian product only but I saw the commercial here tonight for the first time and thought of you.

I wasn't paying too much attention, mind you, but suffice it to say Mr. Messier was teaching a Russian hockey player how to say words that describe chips, like crunch, tasty etc... Anyway, let me get to the point, he looks damn good! He's wearing a black leather jacket and his head is finely shaved, I liked his appearance.

I just wanted you to be on the look-out for the commercial. I can understand your admiration, the man is gorgeous!

Oh Lisa!! That must be a Canadian commercial...I've never seen it :-( And it sounds so appetizing too! Maybe it will make it's way here.

Isn't he too fabulous? Not really classically handsome, but he just reeks of...of...testosterone ;-p I miss seeing him play all the time and was sorry he didn't make the Canadian hockey team. Please, do keep me informed. thanks for the heads up, honey :-)

I couldn't understand why he didn't make the team. A lot of decisions about that team irked me. I'm not very proficient in hockey, in fact the last time I watched a full fledged hockey game was about 7 years ago, I'd say, but I know who's good and who isn't. I don't understand why Gretzky wasn't chosen as one of the shooters against Hashek. He's the greatest player ever and he wasn't chosen? Weird, very weird.

Your Mr. Messier reeks of testosterone. That's exactly it. I was trying to figure out what it was about him and you hit the nail on the head.... then man is so potently masculine.

Who is the wizard bringing in all these fine photos? Does anyone have the poster done by the German speed skater... the one where all she's wearing is a painted on speed suit and her skates? It's pretty amazing... god, what's her name?

Sorry, Lisa...I thought I answered this days ago...guess I wrote the reply and didn't post it. Duh! Lucky I kept a copy ;-)

(Lisa) I couldn't understand why he didn't make the team.

No one understood it, including those who did make the team. Apparently Bobby Clarke (GM of Team Canada) thought the younger players were "ready" to win without the older, veteran players. Obviously they couldn't leave Gretzky off the team, so they chose to omit Mark who is 37--the same age as Wayne. Also, there was some talk of this olympic team being built around Eric Lindros (often compared to a young Messier). Eric Lindros plays for the Flyers. Bobby Clarke is the GM of the Flyers...see a conne
tion?

I don't understand why Gretzky wasn't chosen as one of the shooters against Hashek. He's the greatest player ever and he wasn't chosen? Weird, very weird.

That was just Marc Crawford (Team Canada’s coach) going with a gut feeling. I agree, Gretzky is the best all around hockey player in the history of the sport. When he was younger, he was virtually unstoppable, but the last few years he’s been more of an assist man than a goal scorer. I guess Marc Crawford was going with shooters who have been more successful (recently) with breakaways. Actually, I thought Brendan Shanahan was a good choice...I’m sorry it didn’t go in.

Your Mr. Messier

I like your choice of words, honey :-)

I was trying to figure out what it was about him and you hit the nail on the head.... then man is so potently masculine.

Ooh...”potently masculine” gave me a vision! (Where is Marilyn for this conversation?) Yes...that’s precisely right--Mess is all man...all 205 lbs of him ;-) I love that scary, intimidating expression on his face which, coincidentally is called “The Look” ;-) I love that all his features are exaggerated. I love that when he smiles, it looks like Mt. Rushmore laughing. See...

Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he is one of the finest hockey players on the planet :-)

(gena) Who is the wizard bringing in all these fine photos?

No wizard, gena...just me ;-) Love that hockey!

Does anyone have the poster done by the German speed skater... the one where all she's wearing is a painted on speed suit and her skates?

I've never even heard of it...sounds like an intersting photo, though. Is that similar to Demi Moore's Vanity Fair cover where the business suit is painted on her?

I've never liked Eric Lindros, even though if he is incredibly handsome. He seems a bit stuck up to me and quite full of himself. My brother did mention to me that he was chosen as captain of Team Canada because of Bobby Clarke, which I think was a stupid. He seems kind of young to be the captain, when Gretzky was right there. All these politics in sports and favoritisms annoy me. Just do what's best for the team.

Nan, there's a second Lays potato chip commercial as well. This time Your Mr. Messier is giving a press conference after he's come off the ice, he's all sweaty and chewing on the chips. Too bad you can't see it and tape it.

OK. Who are these two? The guy on the left looks like a Canadian hockey player I saw in a commercial for some cereal.

I really know nothing about hockey, except that the season, which is pointless to begin with since they play all year to eliminate 8 teams from the playoffs, drags on forever.

They are both Canadian hockey players and both with the Detroit Red Wings: Brendan Shanahan on the left and Steve Yzerman on the right. I posted these 2 because Marilyn has a particular weakness for them ;-)

The blond on the right is a mystery. He's good-looking but a mystery to me as well.

There are lots of very handsome hockey players out there. Since you're in Canada, you ignore them from hockey-overload. In the US, they are ignored because they don't play basketball or baseball...*sigh*

Aaah, my guy :-) Actually, I really like the fact that he's not classically handsome. His features are all just a bit "too". His eyes are too deeply set. His jaw is too square. His mouth is too large. And all those scars--woo hoo! I just love a man who has seen some action, sister! :-D

Oh, I should tell you. It's common knowledge on this board (in this Conference, I suppose) that he's MINE...so don't get too grabby, missy! Go scale Michael Jordan ;-p

Afraid not - but he is the coloured guy who runs the 200m and the 400m so well. He has such a beautiful body, it's not even funny. And I'm glad you don't know him either - I know you'd just want to steal him away from me if you did!

Are the Drooleurs watching the Rugby World Cup? Many men there would make the cut.

http://rugbyheaven.smh.com.au/

It is the quarter finals so you may have missed some of the good stuff. But there are still 8 games to be played with the Quarters: QF1 NZ/South Africa, QF2 Australia/Scotland, QF3 England/Wales, and QF4 France/Ireland being held this weekend. The semi-finals are winner of QF1 plays the winner of QF2, while the winner of QF3 plays the winner of QF4.

The stakes are high in the major rugby playing nations. These are a diverse bunch of nations with problems ranging from infighting to injuries, and a diverse range of playing styles. Winning the World Cup earns the winner bragging rights for the next 4 years.

In the South African team, politics has taken over, and the apartheid issue has reared it's ugly head once more. The team had to suspend a couple players before the tournament started because of such a row. The coach Rudolph Straeuli is struggling to hang onto his job. Failure to defeat NZ at the Quarter Final will almost certainly cost him his job.

The Australian team - defending world champs - have not been up to scratch recently, and this combined with resurgent and coming-of-age opponents has Aussies wondering whether they will hang onto the Rugby World Cup. Their oldest foe is just across the ditch and more menacingly still is the emergence of France and England as genuine rivals. Can Australia hang onto the Webb Ellis Cup or will it be surrendered?

To people who have been saying "Watch England and NZ" I say "Watch France". The
French have made great inroads in the last four years from their shock defeat of the All Blacks and surprise second placing after a hotly contested final in the last Rugby World Cup. They went through pool play with few if any hassles and would dearly love to win the World Cup.

The English team are second favourites to win the World Cup after NZ if a Rugby Heaven poll is to be believed. They have two very fast backs and Johnny Wilkinson's boot. They have a formidable army of supporters both in Australia and in England to cheer them on. With 2 weeks to go in the RWC 2003, England is as much a contender as any of the others.

The most feared rugby outfit anywhere in the world suitably wears black in accordance with it's reputation. But this rugby outfit has it's problems - Tana Umaga is out of the Quarters, though Jerry Collins has made it back in after damaging rib cartilege. Possibly much more problematic is the fact that Carlos Spencer is on kicking duty - his boot is notoriously unreliable. Should it come down to a kicking competition, many Kiwi's fear the All Blacks might be on the next plane home.

My friends, the Rugby World Cup 2003 is wide open (for the drooleurs AND for the seekers of international rugby glory).

Rob
