do a websearch for "CowCam", which is quite possibly the most surreal use of a webcam ever :)
Sorry I don't have the URL handy, but it's in my university hotlist.

The Gantz brothers have started a new project in San Francisco.
They have an apartment wired 4 video cameras and 8 mics. In the
apartment next door there is a control room with a switcher and
camera control stuff. This is fed via a T1 line to real networks,
and then to the World Wild Web.
http://www.crushedplanet.com/ is the path.
In this apartment is a couple who are paid to live in a virtual
fishbowl. The two who are there now can be real interesting.
What you don't see in the picture are the people who staff the
control room 24/7 to keep the pictures interesting. This is
kind of an interesting job. When the couple is real active you
are switching a live TV show and it can be a heavy job. In the
normal TV world there are at least 6 people getting the stuff
out on the air. Here you are all by yourself.
You are the camera operator, director, audio mixer, tape operator,
switcher operator and PA all rolled into one.
Here is food for thought... Who do you hire for a job like this?
For those who live in San Francisco and might like a part-time or
full-time job, I can hook you up with their tech director. There
are 5 guys doing it now, but they'd like to have a bigger pool of
people.
If you want to join their team, or perhaps live in a fishbowl for 3
months you can mail me for contact info.

I think I would really likek to live in a fishbowl for a while. I'm a total exhibitionist at times, and it would be extremely interesting...

A webcam can't get much better than this.
